Designers in the City
About
Created with the support of the Jerusalem Development Authority and Ariel Municipal Company Jerusalem, the Designers in the City Compound aims to encourage designers to work and settle in Jerusalem. 20 designers from various disciplines – ceramics, industrial design jewelry, fashion design and more – are given the support and opportunity to create and sell their designs on site.
The compound is located on Bezalel Street in a part of Jerusalem that is developing and thriving culturally. The area is filled with hip boutiques, cafes and the weekly Bezalel Fair on Fridays.
Designers are carefully selected by a committee according to criteria of innovation, creativity, professionalism, commercial potential and entrepreneurial ability. Designers who work in the Compound benefit from a rent subsidy and support on various issues such as marketing as well as business and financial advice.
Designers working on their creations on-site creates a very unique and special atmosphere, and visitors get to take part in and witness the process – from sketch to finished product. Regular activities take place such as "Design Time", a series of seminars on design that draws and inspires recent design graduates. There are also design and creativity workshops for children every Wednesday at 17:00.
