Barood

About

The Barood restaurant is a family business opened by Daniela Lerer in 1995. It serves authentic Jerusalemite-Sephardic food, as cooked by the ancient Spanish Jewish community of Jerusalem, which arrived after the 1492 expulsion from Spain, and has preserved its unique dishes and cooking methods ever since. Barood is located in the spectacular Feingold Yard between Jaffa Road and Rivlin Street, and is designed exceptionally by all standards. On display is an eclectic composition of bottle openers, beer glasses, pictures, mirrors and statues, which lends character to the atmosphere.

Among the recommended dishes are pastelicos, a traditional Spanish pastry; Stifado, a Balkan balkan slow-cooker dish with meat, shallots, carrots and other vegetables in red wine; sofrito, a dish of slow-cooked beef and fried vegetables; and other delicious, traditional, homemade dishes. Barood also functions as a bar and serves a large variety of alcohol from all over the world including a few unique spirits. Barood is a non-kosher restaurant (serving pork).
