Jerusalem International Ice Festival
About
For the second year in a row, Jerusalem is hosting an international ice festival. Last year's was so popular, with reportedly over 300,000 people attending, that it was extended for over a month.
With an indoor temperature of minus 10 degrees Celsius, Jerusalem's Old Train Station is set to turn into a giant (around 1500 square meters) ice city, making it one of the largest and most intricate installations that Israel has ever embarked on. Dozens of builders, construction experts, artists and sculptors – including over 60 flown in from China – have come together to create this tour de force; a combined effort with art, ice, and the human imagination.
Hundreds of tons of ice-blocks have been be molded and sculptured into a fantasy-like ice kingdom depicting key highlights of this year's theme, Asia.
This ice city showcases all kinds of Asian culture, geographical, and natural icons, such as rainforests, long slides, mazes, bridges, and more. In parallel, an hour-long acrobatic and dance performance on the ice arena - meant to leave the audience breathtaken - takes place four times throughout the day.
