The Jerusalem Theater

About

Located in the middle of the classic neighborhood of Talbiyeh, the Jerusalem Theater (also known as the Jerusalem Theatre for the Performing Arts) is Israel’s largest and most active culture center. The Theater was opened with one hall in 1971 and has since grown to encompass four additional halls, all the while providing residents of the capital and visitors from all over the world with top-quality local and international dance, music and theater performances as well as films. Over 600,000 visitors attend the Jerusalem Theater every year to sample from the broad range of acts selected by the theater’s repertoire committee. The Theater provides a stage for a variety of local festivals including the critically acclaimed Oud Festival, the Curtain Up dance festival, the Puppet Theater Festival, and of course, the Israel Festival.

The Jerusalem Theater’s five halls range in size from the 970-seat Sherover Theater and the 760-seat Henry Crown concert hall to the 117-seat Small Theater and the recently opened “Studio,” which can seat 300. The theater also boasts a cafe, a book and music store and spacious foyers that are often used for art exhibitions. The Jerusalem Theater is wheelchair accessible.
