Ta'ami
About
One of Jerusalem's very first restaurants, Ta'ami is an oriental home-cooking restaurant that opened in 1954 as a hummus stand by grandpa Albert Majar. Today, the third generation of the family runs the restaurant, which is famous for its glorious past of endless lines of diners, stretching almost to the end of Shamai Street. Grandpa Majar was known to shout out various catchphrases such as "don't chew, swallow,” "hummus has no bones in it," "this is not a library" and more. Today you will not hear those lines, but the atmosphere remains – you’re there to eat, not to occupy a seat.
The recommended dishes are hummus, of course; stuffed vegetables; and authentic main dishes such as moussaka, shish kebab and stews. The restaurant offers simple yet tasty food.
