Yad Izhak Ben-Zvi is a research institution established by a special law of the Knesset, Israel's parliament, for the purpose of continuing the Zionist, educational and cultural activities of President Izhak Ben–Zvi. The institute operates from the home and offices of the former President and his wife, Rahel Yanait, in Rechavia, Jerusalem.
The Institute was founded in 1947, in order to explore the history and cultural activity of the communities under Islam, countries of the Middle East and Asia. The Institute does research by examining documents, manuscripts and printed material and then compiles monographs and texts on these communities.
The Institute's library has a rich collection of manuscripts, rare books and a photographic archive. Its publishing house publishes dozens of magazines and books each year. The Institute offers a great deal of courses, seminars, lectures and tours of Jerusalem.
