Capitol Hotel
About the Capitol Hotel
Located just off Salah Eddin Street in east Jerusalem, a mere two-minute walk from the Old City, the Capitol Hotel is a real winner when it comes to location.
The 45 rooms are a bit on the basic side, as one would expect from a budget hotel, but all come with satellite TV, individual A/C and en-suite bathrooms and showers. Some of the rooms also feature balconies.
One of the Capitol’s best features is the newly renovated bar, a great place to chill out with a drink after a day of heavy touring. The hotel also provides its guests with free Wi-Fi in the lobby. The hotel’s staff is reportedly extremely helpful and accommodating.

We travelled during Easter (family from Ireland with 10yo daughter, stayed 5 nights) so got high season rates but still really reasonable, especially comparing to what we paid for a hotel in Tel Aviv. Superb family room (#201) with two separate bedrooms, bathroom fully stacked with toiletries, nice size fridge, tv (no kids channels tho) and great internet connection, no balcony in this room but we were made aware of that and still chose it due to it's size. Extremely helpful, pleasant, friendly and professional employees . Special thanks to Nazir at reception, Jamil and Mohammed, they all made us feel there like home. Gulchun at reservation was big help and we were surprised how quickly she replied to our queries. Have to mention super Chef (apologies but didn't get his name), food selection at breakfast was perfect, his omelets were amazing. Coffee/hot chocolate available 24/7. Clean rooms, clean hotels common areas and very clean outside (our daughter loved colourful umbrellas hanging above little square just outside main entrance). Hotel is located in a Muslim area few hundred meters from Damascus gate of old city walls, another few hundred meters from Jaffa gate (where nearby you can find great fountains in Teddy Park for kids to play in, again our daughter wanted to be there everyday). Walking distance also from Jaffa Street, simply perfect location. Buses to Bethlehem are parked outside Damascus gate, buses to Dead Sea and Qasr el Yahud (Jordan river) from main bus station (opposite main train station - 40 minutes to Tel Aviv HaHagana station), easily reachable by tramway on Jaffa Street. Have to also mention in this review, a superb restaurant Al Karam number 23 at Sultan Solman Street run by twin brothers, one of them is Samer, top host! They offer delicious shawarmas, kebabs and chicken (reasonably priced and very tasty - really busy also, it says everything). When you walk out from hotel, take right, go as far as city walls and right again, another 100m maybe and you there, enjoy! Concluding, Jerusalem is a magical city, New Capitol Hotel is wonderful in 100%, people there friendly and amazing, very honest recommendation from us!

Room looked shabby, dusty like it was never vacuumed. faulty heating system and on top of that the shower was leaking a lot and it was never fixed during our stay. The room next to us was very loud and we couldn't sleep. Paper thin walls. I asked to speak with management but there was no one that I could speak to or explain my discomfort. I wouldn't stay at this hotel again or recommend it to my family and friends. I like to support Arab business but this was not the one.

Ahmed and Mohammed at the desk were so lovely and helpful and helped make our stay go so smooth - helping with everything from take out pizza, to translation, to travel plans. The neighborhood is fantastic, safe, and friendly and that also contributed to our satisfaction with our choice. The breakfast buffet was expansive. My kids complained about the internet signal being a little weak, but I had no problem with that. The room was clean and modern, and the beds were super comfortable. Wish we could have stayed longer!
