My husband and I stayed for two nights at the Lutheran Guest House and this gave us the perfect place to explore the old city, especially convenient in the early morning and late evening hours and during those hot hours in the middle of August days. Our room as well as the gardens have a nice view of the Dome of the Rock and the Mt. of Olives. There is also a rooftop terrace from which to view landmarks to the NW and SW such as the domes/towers of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre and the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer. The breakfast included in the room rate is very nice and substantial. We highly recommend staying at this guesthouse.

We stayed at a Lutheran Guest house, a safe and very nice facility that is well located and not far from Church of the Nativity etc. The food/breakfast was excellent. Due to Israeli Occupation, water use is a bit of an issue and rightly so. It did not affect a nice hot shower, but we were careful of the amount of water we used. I highly recommend staying in Bethlehem itself and not driving in and out on a tour bus. This gives you a much better idea of the Bethlehem of today and it supports local retailers who are struggling. Also recommend Mike"s ceramics in Manger square, a great place for reasonable souvenirs and a very nice owner. In addition it is great to hire a Palestinian guide ( their English is really good) because they are so hospitable and well versed. We ate twice at a restaurant just off Manger sq. called Afteem (great felafel)
