We stayed at a Lutheran Guest house, a safe and very nice facility that is well located and not far from Church of the Nativity etc. The food/breakfast was excellent. Due to Israeli Occupation, water use is a bit of an issue and rightly so. It did not affect a nice hot shower, but we were careful of the amount of water we used. I highly recommend staying in Bethlehem itself and not driving in and out on a tour bus. This gives you a much better idea of the Bethlehem of today and it supports local retailers who are struggling. Also recommend Mike"s ceramics in Manger square, a great place for reasonable souvenirs and a very nice owner. In addition it is great to hire a Palestinian guide ( their English is really good) because they are so hospitable and well versed. We ate twice at a restaurant just off Manger sq. called Afteem (great felafel)

There was a good choice of food with excellent cheese, juice and fresh fruit. Also the coffee was fine. All in all a good stay for a reasonable price. We will come back here next time we visit Jerusalem.

After booking, I received an email from management telling me that rooms without AC will be supplied with fans. This is not an acceptable disclaimer. Do NOT book a room without AC in the summer. If they have none available, move on. In spite of the fan, my closet-sized room was way too hot and stuffy to sleep in. Refusing to refund or even discount the fee for that night, management instead moved me to an air-conditioned room the following night, which meant moving someone's reservation to a room without AC. Fact is, they shouldn't be booking those rooms at all and if they cared, they wouldn't. I have a high tolerance for heat, and even I couldn't take it.
