Very good experience

They upgraded us to the terrace room. The hotel was very clean and the staff was friendly and helpful. The hot-tub on the terrace was outstanding! It was cold outside and getting in to the warm water at the night was a perfect closer for our birthday night.

Brown Machne Yehuda - pretty and pretty disappointing

This was our first time in the Brown Hotel Machne Yehuda. The hotel is perfectly situated - right next to the shuk where we can explore everything the shuk has to offer during the day (fruit, vegetable, food and baked goods stands) and late, late into the night with kosher bars and every kind of food, as well as loud music and happy crowds! Our room was small (we knew it would be) yet it was gorgeous! It was well appointed with all the amenities in large bottles (shampoo, conditioner, soap, cream), soft towels and more, with a kind of dark, dark industrial vibe. The problems were #1 the hanging section for clothing was located high up on the wall - so you need to be at least 5'11" (husband's height) to reach the bar and hang something. So either bring a tall person or a ladder or don't bother hanging clothing. #2 the problem was only apparent the next morning as this dark room stayed dark (no real separation between the bathroom and the bedroom and so no bright lights) and it was very difficult to put on makeup unless I took their small makeup mirror outside onto the porch. #3 lack of kashrut. The hotel does not have a teuda and this is something that should have been stated when we checked in and reiterated when discussing the breakfast, which comes boxed, sans teuda (as we were told when we asked) and not served. Why the hotel couldn't get a kosher box breakfast, in Jerusalem of all places, is beyond me. There are plenty of parking lots all around the area of the hotel and they have an overnight 'deal' with one of the parking lots in walking distance. You have to ask them about this - as you do with most issues including the kosher issue - since information about the hotel is not volunteered. Now for the worst of all problems: #4 The service is spotty at best. When we checked-in everybody was smiles and friendly. Check-out was a different story - no one asked us once how the room was, how our stay was, in fact no one said anything to us until WE said goodbye. No smiles, no 'we hope to see you again', just don't let the door kick you on your way out. This is especially perplexing since this is a new hotel and you would expect that they would ask us to fill out a satisfaction survey and ask us if there's anything that they could do to make our stay more pleasant. I guess they really don't care what the guests have to say. Just to make my point - at check-out the hotel staff didn't have to deal with large groups checking-in or little kids running rampant through the lobby. This is a calm, quiet, small boutique hotel - there simply wasn't any reason not to wish guests a goodbye. I've spent more time talking to random techcians that come to fix my air conditioner than they invested in asking us if we had a pleasant stay.  Memo to Brown Hotel management and HR training staff: it's human interaction and a sense of warmth that counts, not large bottles of cream rinse and shampoo. Bottom line: beautiful rooms, small hotel, small well-mannered, uncaring staff. Jerusalem is full of small, boutique hotels at this price point - it's service and a smile that'll bring me back, just not to this hotel.

We stayed at the Brown Machne Yehuda hotel for 1 night during April 2021. The location of the hotel is great, 1 minute walk from Machne Yehuda Market, 3 minutes walk to Jaffa street, and it is very close to the electric bus. The room is not huge, but for a couple it was suitable, it is in very good condition. The hotel seems to be open for few weeks and it is quite new. Breakfast was provided in boxes, and it was delicious with fresh bread, cheese, vegetables, eggs... As for the service, it seems that the staff making all efforts to make the staying enjoyable. I will come back to this hotel.
