We stayed at the Mamilla for 4 nights in May. It is beautiful with a large bathroom ( ours had a separate tub and shower) and a very comfortable king size bed. The room was a good size with sufficient storage. The only problem for us was the lighting- we had to work at night for a bit and the lighting was a little too dim. The location is great as mentioned in previous posts. We walked back and forth to the Old City a few times a day. We did not have time to shop in the beautiful adjacent mall but the stores were plentiful ( and to be honest, mainly stores that you could find back home in North America). Also enjoyed the breakfasts, but that is par for the course at any good hotel in Israel. We would stay here again. And we absolutely loved our time in Israel.

Modern but With Flaws

There is little question that Mamilla is one of Jerusalem's top hotels. Located near the Old City, it is in the same neighborhood as other top tier hotels as its sister property, David Citadel, the Waldorf Astoria and the iconic King David. The interior of the hotel is quite modern but I found the guest rooms somewhat lacking. The shower is somewhat awkward as it shares space with the bathtub all surrounded by liquid crystal glass that be switched from transparent to simply translucent, a bit gimmicky. There was, surprisingly, no courtesy bathrobe. The light switches and electrical outlets require nearly a full page of instructions which, frankly, do not make them any easier to manipulate. The free wifi is unsecured and requires the guest to log in each day. Higher speed wifi is available at a cost.

This hotel owned by the same owner of my favorite Jerusalem hotel, David's Citadel must be an attempt to attract a younger and hipper crowd. It reminds me of a W Hotel. The hotel staff is excellent and the hotel is, like it's sister across the street, in an amazing location. Within walking distance of the Old City and shopping and restaurants. What more can you want? How about more light! The rooms and hallways are really dark. I almost felt like calling to the desk and asking for a flashlight. And, the bathrooms, while conversation pieces are impractical. Thankfully, I was alone. Next time, I'll stay at David's Citadel.

I have stayed a number of times in this hotel, always for business. This is one of the most amazing boutique hotels globally, the architecture is modern and grand, the rooms are comfortable and spacious, the service is implacable and the view magical. The hotel is located a few steps from the old city of Jerusalem, the rooftop restaurant both serves excellent food and has the magical view of the tower of David. The hotel is attached to a street mall in which you will find anything needed from food to clothing. Highly recommended
