This is a cute place but had too many problems for us. First, they put us, 2 older women, on the top floor, which is 4 flight of stairs without any elevator. The apartment was cute, had a nice view, but was not clean. The location was great, right across from the Mehana Yehuda marketplace and walking distance to Ben Yehuda area. The staff was very friendly and tried to help, but they did not have enough staff for the number of people staying and many did not speak english. So, it was frustrating for us.

We looked for an inexpensive place with easy access to the Old City, not a flashy tourist place, and had room for 3 adults. That's what we found at the Market Courtyard. It felt more like renting a local apartment than a hotel. The location has pros - right next to a light rail stop, and across the street from the huge Mahaneh Yehuda market. But those are also the cons since it can be noisy, especially on weekends. We didn't hear any noise in the bedroom, but the person sleeping on the couch saw the lights and heard the sounds. (So get a room away from the street if possible.) Having a small kitchen area was great for our breakfast or an evening snack. The best advice I read was to review the maps and directions before you go. The entrance is on Ha-Carmel which is a walking-only street. Any bus or taxi will drop you off on Agrippas and point to an alley you're supposed to walk through to find Ha-Carmel. It's confusing at first, but not at all difficult later. And we never felt unsafe on the back roads.

Historic building in great location

The building is full of character and we loved the arched windows in our room with a view over the stone and red roofed houses of nahlaot but there is a sense of hostel accommodation here in the simple furnishing and the reception area which has a cheap Formica type desk and young staff. However they were very helpful and pleasant and even changed our room when we found out that the room we had been given faces an ugly section of the market and could be more noisy. So ask for the Bustan Sephardi side. The towels for the bathroom were stored in the main cupboard and had a bad smell. Heating in the room was great, as was the cleanliness and there is a fully equipped kitchen. However we opted to have breakfast at an excellent bakery in Yaffo street and eat in the market. One of the benefits is that you are a 10 second walk away from machane yehuda which has so many options for eating and is such a fun experience.

Good location bad wiring
TripAdvisor RatingReviewed on January 6, 2017

We stayed there for the location and the benefits of having your own flat. However from day 1 (of 5) the fuse kept flipping. As the days progressed it became more sensitive. Really sucks when the fuse pops in the middle of the shower. We were in room 14.

Nice hotels in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv are very expensive, hence the search for reasonable value and this properties success. The location across from the market and next to Jaffa St and the tram is superb. It's tricky to find in a car as gps is lost, so plan. The small apartments in this 3 story walk-up are very simple but functional, could have been a little cleaner, they are not serviced so when you wish fresh towels just ask. The rotating young staff in the office are sweet and very helpful. The side of the building facing the market is really loud late into the morning, the bars are rockin. All in all a good value option.
