We found Montefiore hotel comfortable accommodating , a helpful staff, a delicious breakfast, and superbly located. The rooms were clean and comfortable. When we requested that they store some of our luggage while we left for a 5 day tour to Malta it was no problem. We returned from Malta at 10: am Friday morning and in a 1/2 hour had a room for us to crash in. We did have a reservation for the next 3 days. We had a delicious Shabbat dinner both Shabbasim we were there. The front desk was always helpful when we needed directions or a cab. We highly recommend the Montefiore hotel.

We arrived at the Montefiore Hotel, Jerusalem after a 12 hour travelling day to be greeted by... noone. We waited at reception for well over 10 minutes. No apology ,no how was your trip, no smile, nothing. The receptionist Youseff took another 15 minutes to check us in, He didn't seem to care about how long this was taking. If I didn't know better I would say it was deliberate. A robot would have been more pleasant. The room on the 5th floor was OK. It was good value for what we paid,£95 a night including breakfast. The room needs renovating but the shower was good and everything worked. It was also quiet. Only fault was that plugs were hanging out of the wall. The breakfast was good, plenty of choice , served on the ground floor. But on one day there was no bread. I asked a waiter and he said there isn't any. and just carried on his conversation with two other waiters and ignored me This happened again the next day when I asked for orange juice. There wasn't any. This was typical of the staff at this hotel. They were not interested in the paying guests, just talking to each other. On numerous occasions there was no one at reception .We waited well over five minutes, many times and there was never an apology.Just a couldn't care less attitude. Only one good point, while we were waiting for a taxi, a member of staff came out to tell me the taxi would be here in five minutes ,very nice. This hotel could be amazing with a renovation and decent staff. The location is fantastic,2 minutes walk to Ben Yehuda Street ,and within walking distance of the Western Wall. I have written to Smart Hotels who own this hotel, after they asked for my comments, but they have not replied, short of " we will pass your comments on" . So if you want a hotel in a great location ,at a good value price with OK rooms, breakfast without orange juice and bread, along with the most miserable unhelpful staff I have ever encountered ( when they are there) then this is the right hotel for you !!

I don't want to sound unreasonable, but many people pointed to the same problem: the rooms and many areas of the hotel are worn out and not well maintained. The rooms need updating, or even a full renovation pretty bad. This is what makes this hotel unpleasant. However, the location is very good. Many travellers will find it convenient for most purposes while visiting Jerusalem. Also, I enjoyed the breakfast and dinner buffets. There were as good, if not better than in other similarly priced hotels in Israel.
