Pleasant Hotel in nice location

Was pleasantly surprised with this boutique hotel situated in a small mall. The potted geraniums on the room window sills are a nice touch. Wifi is adequate, but a shade slow. Location is good with the main shopping a short stroll away, and the hotel os in reasonable proximity to the old (walled) city). There is good used and antiquarian bookstore opposite the hotel, the store is a great deal larger than the small shop front may suggest. Would be happy to stay at this Hotel again. Breakfast offering is fair and reasonable quality though some may find it limited.

First of all I want to state that everyone who works here is as nice as can be from the front desk people, the people in the back office and all the help. The location of this hotel is ideal - right in the middle of Downtown Jerusalem and walking distance to many restaurants and Shuk Mahane Yehuda. We were staying for 3 weeks so we had a friend of ours who lives in Jerusalem negotiate a rate for us and she did get us a good rate. I’m sorry to say that although this would be a terrific little hotel, it is very tired. It needs a complete makeover. The room we had was very decent with enough closet space but it could use an overhaul with new carpets and furnishings and new bathrooms. There is a lovely renovated room on the 7th floor, but you can’t access it via the elevator, only stairs. That makes it very hard shlepping 2 suitcases and a carry-on as there is no bellman service! We had to change rooms on our last night due to a leak in our room's ceiling and the new room we were given was smaller and did not have the closet space that our first room had. I was glad we were going to be leaving the next day. Breakfast is included with the room, but unfortunately, it leaves a lot to be desired. There’s a substantial selection and the presentation was nice, but it just was not tasty. The young woman who watches over the dining room was always chopping up the scrambled eggs into tiny pieces which makes them too dry and crumbly. The tuna fish tasted awful with olives and I think lemon juice. They only have egg bread rolls on Shabbat, not during the week, though there was wheat bread all the time. But being in Israel, with all their wonderful breads, it was too bad that they didn't have 'challah' rolls every day. I must say, though, that the cakes were very good. You won’t go hungry but their breakfast buffet is nothing like the other hotels in Israel where Israeli breakfasts are known to be fabulous. The did have a great cappuccino/espresso machine. The Montefiore has great potential. It was perfect for our needs at the time. With a major renovation I would stay here again.

This place has deteriorated since I was last here. My door handle was broken and didn’t lock when I left the room. Hotel didn’t fix it and management refused to give me a discount for the massive inconvenience and the risk I had to take of all my stuff getting stolen. There was hair in the tub (not mine) when I checked in. Sensor for thermostat was broken so room constantly overheated. Manager and staff don’t care. I will be writing to Smart Hotels to demand a refund. I won’t be back.
