We arrived 2 hours later than our email anticipated, the reception told us that we are a NO show, and we could not take the room. I explained we had paid in advance and they gave us a room, with no electric light, no shower, no toilet. My dogs sleep on better mattresses and the kennels are cleaner. We moved into another room the following morning. The standard of accommodation is dreadful. We did not have our bedding changed once in 8 days. Everything is always I will see and never delivers. The place smells dreadful, filthy inside and out, mold all over the bathrooms. The type of place you would be scared to move the bed in fear of finding a new species. Book elsewhere and travel in it must be better than this hovel. I should have contacted Booking.com but I was not sure what they would do! DO NOT USE THIS HOSTEL IT IS FILTHY.

Duration of stay: 5 days Room: Private with ensuite Prior to check in I had emailed the hostel directly to change my booking from 6 to 5 days which they confirmed by email. Upon checking in they did not have record of my email and had intended on charging me the 6 days however, I showed them thier own email response and the matter was resolved. Cleanliness of the room was reasonable and small. Room was not cleaned the entire time of my stay. The big boss who is often found in the office is not a people person so don't expect too much pleasantries from him. When asking about the tours they advertise, he quoted me 3 different prices on 3 different days. Suggest if you are looking for tours that you head over to Jaffa gate entrance of the old city and there you will reputable tour operators and information re: tours there. There are 2 American guys who work the front desk that were helpful. Location is great and easy to find opposite of the Demascus gate. They have a money exchange and ATM located the floor below and when I asked to withdraw money using ATM facility I specifically asked if there was an additional charge 3 times. On all 3 occasions I was told no extra charge but upon withdrawing the money and checking my account I was charged an additional $14 on top of the amount I withdrew. Would recommend this place if your on a tight budget and don't mind the above issues.

Warning: If you can't be stopped in booking this property then just keep convincing yourself that you only paid for the location. Be warned that the photos they are posting online were probably taken maybe 10 years ago when they were "functional". It's the reason why they offer absolutely no refund. There was no form of any security at all, the front desk is always missing and not really welcoming. When you ask them questions and recommendations all they can say is I don't know. There was one time that when I came in, the guy standing in the entrance who works for the hostel even asked me if I was staying there- they don't even remember the faces of their few guests. Upon arrival I had a German room mate who was smart enough to just book one night since he was uncertain of the property. As for me I booked and paid a non refundable fee for several nights. I had some friends from Tel Aviv who decided to go on a road trip so I asked them if I can just refund the rest of the nights but it seems they are determined to keep my money so I got a hard pass no, and told me they can just move my booking. It is also noticeable that there are very few guests, like you can count them with your two hands. And so the unlikely event happened when I woke up past midnight to go to the toilet and when I was turning the door knob of my room, it fell off. I panicked and had been calling out for help for an hour and a half before the staff opened the door from the outside, I was so worried as I needed to wake up very early for a tour I booked somewhere else, the guy told me "it's not a problem". Moving on the following nights, I tried my best to hang out with my friends who were staying somewhere else so I come back very late and leave again by dawn just to avoid staying there. Another disgusting thing is their cleanliness standard- THEY NEVER CHANGE THE SHEETS. The staff smokes everywhere and drops their cigarette butts in the toilet bowls.
