Excellent location. The accommodation is comfortable and complete in terms of its services. As well as the attention of the reception staff, very good. If I return I will try to stay in the same apartments.

Great stay at Shamai suites inn the center of the town.

We stayed at the Shamai on the 10 March, for one night only, after previously booking it for three. I'm certain that back in the day, this hotel was something, due to it's excellent location and price. Now, it's as run down as the McDonnalds restaurant sat opposite it, which is no longer being used! This hotel has very strong ratings on Tripadvisor and this puzzles me? On reflection, I suspect this is down to the extremely competitive pricing (for Jerusalem) and close proximity to the Old City; that being a very short 15 minute walk away to the Jaffa Gate. I should've read between the lines and paid more attention to the reviews, which highlighted the dirty state of the rooms. The one we had looked like it hadn't received a proper clean in months. There was dirt and dust all around the skirting boards. The bedsheets and towels had a very well used look about them and I'm not certain to this day that our bedsheets had even been changed prior to our arrival. The condition of the bathroom was filthy and disgusting. Mould around all the shower tiles, rusted metal on the shower assembly and dirt around the rest of the bathroom walls. Whilst we weren't self-catering, the setup in the 'mini kitchen area' didn't lend itself to that functionality, in my opinion. Not enough space or kitchen utensils for that purpose. I'm not being unrealistic and expecting the world for around £70 a night, such as all the mod-cons, a restaurant and so on. However, I do expect that regardless of the price I'm paying, the room, towels and sheets should be in a tip-top condition in terms of cleanliness. I don't expect to see mould, rust and dirt all over the shop. I felt that on having my shower the morning after, I needed to go somewhere else and have another one, which I did. I was so appalled by the general state of the room, that I decided to write off the other two nights and check in somewhere else for double the price. I appreciate that if you're travelling on a budget that you may not have that luxury. We didn't really either but I didn't want my stay in Jerusalem to be soured. I've written a review for that other Jerusalem hotel that we stayed at instead, which was a superb. This review is no reflection on the staff, who were very helpful on our arrival. I saw little point in complaining, based on the other reviews which highlighted the same thing and the time we had there. Rather than make a fuss, which in my opinion would've been a wasted exercise, we simply decided to relocated. My advice to anybody is that if cleanliness is an absolute must for you, then you need to consider paying about £100 a night in Jerusalem because based on the reviews I've read on TripAdvisor. Every review we read had negative comments about cleanliness if the price was below that.

Stayed at the hotel for two nights. The hotel was pretty good. Acceptable location near the center of town, walking distance to the old town, developed surrounding infrastructure, close to many bars, shops and cafes. Comfortable beds, good wifi, helpful staff. Price-quality is comparable. Good luck, Gregory

Homey hotel
