We booked at Shani due to the availability of a family room giving our children proper beds in their own room, rather than a sofa bed. The family room gave us plenty of space and ensured a good nights sleep for the kids. The room was clean but there were some issues with maintenance- none of the doors closed properly and the main door had huge gaps around the edges meaning light from the hallway flooded into our room at night - and noise (more on that later). Location was great. Staff were friendly and welcoming on arrival however when we flagged a few small issues little seemed to happen. We were staying over Passover so the breakfast offering was a little different (no bread or cereal). Whilst there was a variety of cheese, fruit and salads things weren’t replaced when used up. Our last day was a festival day so in addition to the previous reduced offering there was no freshly cooked food on offer. Whilst we are Jewish and aware of this there was no communication to explain this to other guests. Our main issue with breakfast was hotel staff stood right outside the dining room door smoking, with smoke coming into the room whilst we were eating. In addition to the food affected by the festival hot water was unavailable/ turned off on our last day - again there was no communication to guests to explain this. Our major issue with Shani was the noise. Unlike other reviews we were unaffected by the Dublin pub, but were affected by other guests. In particular resident guests/timeshare guests who had a room near us and left their children to play in the hallway for hours late at night unattended disturbing other guests. We asked the children to be quiet but without their parents around /language barrier this has little impact. Clearly room owner guests are of the opinion that they can treat the hotel like their own home regardless of other paying guests. We were also disturbed at night by guests in a neighbouring room. When we eventually asked them to be quiet we they did - but clearly walls in the hotel were very thin. All in we would be unlikely to return to the Shani as for the same price we would make do with a single room in a hotel that is more considerate of all their guests.

We needed a place to fit our family of 5 that wasn't astronomical in cost. It is very unpleasant for us to travel to foreign places, but not be able to be together in close proximity. We do not want to do air bnb cause we need the convenience of easy check-in and staff. Anyway, the reviews of Shani were all over the place, but we had to gamble cause the prices were astronomical to non-existent for us elsewhere. Upon arrival, it was a fine lobby with a nice friendly girl. The room wasn't beautiful, but it was clean and fine. No surprises from the photos!!! Just a room which is what we needed. The shower was really great and when we needed extra towels they were promptly provided. The breakfast on day 1 was amazing. The Israeli breakfast was something to behold. It was a little strange to us though so we appreciated the Western options too. Day 2 breakfast was totally different. They were preparing for Passover, but the breakfast should be consistent. If they absolutely MUST not have bread, perhaps a sign to include the fact. It wasn't just that the bread was gone though, it was lots of stuff. So I don't know WHY?? A simple explanation would suffice, but a breakfast should be consistent. The hotel staff were really friendly. We walked everywhere and there are many shops and restaurants within close proximity. We walked to the old city many times. It's totally doable if you're in decent shape. So... the location was good. If Shani works for your budget, I would recommend it.

When I stayed at this hotel my room was never cleaned. The lady only came and changed towels and added toiletries. She never actually cleaned and usually locked herself in a room down the hall with a male employee . There was broken glass in the bathroom and it was never cleaned( the broken glass was there when I checked in). The worst part of the experience at my stay in the Shani hotel was the abuse I witnessed an employee went through. They rabbi that checked the food always came yelling every morning and was yelling at the young man to move a machine. The young man said okay and asked to not tell and pointed at us the guest eating breakfast. The rabbi continued to yell more and pushed the employee and got in his face. The employee was fired on the spot. The employee did nothing wrong and the Rabbi was yelling and out his hands on the employee. It was hard to watch . This all happen with guest eating breakfast . I told the front desk staff what occurred and emailed the manager and until today I have not heard anything. Abuse of any kind I will not tolerate or be a part of. Shame of the rabbi that put his hands on an employee ( who was a young guy) and shame on shani hotel for not doing a damn thing . The saddest part of all is that employee that was fired was the friendliest staff and was very personal. If you believe in equality and are against abuse in the work place do not stay here! Staying here you support it.
