Never have I been excited about staying in a hotel but so disappointed by the experience!

I have always wanted to stay in the King David.. Spy Novels, World history, Jewish history, the aspect to the Old City... all of that. The reality was to say the least underwhelming. The hotel is trading on its past, on the leaders who stay there ( who probably have a different experience) and its exalted reputation. The plusses and there are some, are the view of the gardens and the old city if you have one from your room and the incredible breakfast buffet. The things we didnt like: Firstly the standard and age of the rooms, the amenities are appalling for the price you pay. they are in serious need of renovation. The mattresses are old and need changing and we had the worst sleep of any hotel in Israel. The quality of the cleaning in the rooms is poor and they look somewhat grubby! Front desk service is ok the concierge service was poor. Continual reminders regarding booking, having to ask for address details.. most hotels of this standard automatically give you details. I had a gift delivered to the hotel. I waited 18 hours for it to be delivered before asking where it was. At the pool ordering drinks and snacks, we have water melon delivered in a takeaway container in a plastic shopping bag!~ I just laughed. A 2 or 3 star ok but for this standard. The quality of dry cleaning and pressing is very poor. Things needed re pressing , there and after we left. In the coffee shop you had to fight to get any service. No attendance to tables, a surly attitude and on one occasion whilst waiting for our room we where sent there for coffee they told us they where too busy to serve us! An so on and so on..... Im not someone who likes whinging for the sake of it but this place doesnt stack up..On top of which it is expensive. We heard other people expressing complaints also . It was genuinely so disappointing that we contemplated checking out and going somewhere else however we will not go back next time

Our family of 4, with 2 teenage kids stayed for 3 nights at King David. What a very interesting and historical hotel! The lobby is breathtaking and the pool is really quite nice. The rooms are typically small. We were on the 5th floor, and after reading some reviews, I guess I should be thankful for that. The room was in reasonably good shape, although the bathroom wasn't exactly clean upon arrival. That, and the attitude of many, but not all, of the staff members is the reason that this hotel is not 5 star in my book. Several of the front desk folks were less than pleasant. (I was paying for 2 rooms for 3 nights). The concierge was flippant, and refused to get us a cab not once, but twice. I asked for a brochure on the history of the hotel. Another concierge man told me they had no such thing, and I should look it up on line. We had the same waiter for breakfast both days. He was aloof at best, rude at the worst. We laughed it off, but management should inform the staff that they are in the service business and they should be nice to their "guests." It should not matter whether the guest is a tourist or a business person. It deserves 4 stars because of the history and physical structure of the building, however, I like to be treated like I am spending good money for good service.

Standard city view room is small for the price (US450 a night) and bathroom very small with combined shower/bath and not much room to move. Housekeeping good and left lovely treats every day. Breakfast buffet though is amazing, one of the best breakfast buffet's I've had. Lovely pool area. Very family friendly, kids running around everywhere and a very busy foyer.

Stately elegance, well maintained, extraordinary pool. Breakfast can fill you for the day--amazing buffet. Located near Old City and renovated Mamilla--easy walk. Also accessible by foot to German Colony. Beds supportive for back sufferers like me. While room quiet, lobby and breakfast room can be noisy with lots of kids and large groups. Nevertheless,...
