I know there are hotels that are newer... my husband and I chose the King David because of the history surrounding this beautiful hotel. The lobby is refined having greeted many a head of state. The public rooms, restaurants and pool area are beautifully maintained, filled with mahogany paneling, oriental rugs and beautiful period accents. The other 5 star hotels don't have the essence that differentiates the King David from 4 or 5 year old hotels. The rooms were comfortable, with a gorgeous view of the old city of Jerusalem. The service was quiet and efficient. Thank you for a memorable stay.

Very disappointing

So overrated this place. It might be rich in history and illustrious visitors but..... The setting outside is quite nice which is the only aspect we liked. Service very poor which equates to pathetic for such an institution. Waiters who can't even explain dishes on the menu...look very disorganised without coordination. Takes ages to get noticed...

Service very poor which equates to pathetic for such an institution. Waiters who can't even explain dishes on the menu...look very disorganised without coordination. Takes ages to get noticed and be served even if just a few tables occupied. Quality of food also very disappointing but at least they paid attention to matching it with their service! Lobby area very pretentious and tasteless decor with a temple theme which degrades the entire hotel. It looks like cardboard rooms in Walt Disney. Last but not least general feel when arriving quite stuck up staff and not welcoming at all.

This is definitely the Grand Dame of hotels in Jerusalem. Built in the early 30's it has hosted a long slew of dignitaries from all around the world. The drive into the hotel is somehow not so grand, very discreet indeed, however when you walk in the wow moment happens. The lobby area is impressive, the rooms are beautifuly appointed (hopefully you're facing into the old town and not the street) and the service was very good. Special mentioning has got to go to the bed. Which was heavenly! We slept so well on a huge bed, perfectly firm, with a light yet very warm duvet which perfectly suited the cold room. Loved it! The pool area is also wonderful, especially during the hot days of the Jerusalem summer. The gym perhaps is a bit disappointing - it's small and has a very low ceiling - however, it was manageable. It was wonderful to return back to the hotel in the evening and have a night-cap at the great ground floor bar. What a perfect way to end a beautiful day in Jerusalem.

There are many reasons to stay at The King David Hotel, but four good reasons are Jeremy and Naomi in guest relations, Hany in the dining room, and Emma in housekeeping. They all went above and beyond to make our stay in Israel the best yet. As always our room was beautiful, with a lovely view of the old city. It was kept impeccably clean and organized by Emma. She is quick and efficient and always so welcoming and happy. The breakfast experience is the best ever. The food is fresh and delicious and so plentiful. Our waiter, Hany is really tops. Whether we were the first in the dining room or the last dawdler, the service was always the same - EXCEPTIONAL. Both Jeremy and Naomi from guest relations were always available to help with any questions we had and to make recommendations for things to see and do. We will miss the King David and the wonderful staff, but will return next year.
