This former family residence is magnificent from the outside. The reception area is simple but very well maintained and includes vintage tables and chairs where guests can take tea or have breakfast. There was a warm welcome from the staff, but oddly they offered me an overpriced breakfast in what I'm told is a non kosher restaurant, despite my attire indicating that was not appropriate. Consequently they didn't give me breakfast at all. Luckily I'd brought food with me. My room with balcony was on the top floor (third). I took the lift there. Some flies flew up and down the hallway. The room was clean but shabby (see uploaded photos). The fan in the bathroom didn't work, so the bathroom smelled damp, remarkable for a top floor in a hot country. Consequently the room had received a very unhealthy dose of fabric spray. I opened the windows for the rest of my stay and drew the curtains to keep the insects out. The bed was comfortable enough for one night but one night was enough. I ditched my second night, took a hit on the expense and headed back to Tel Aviv. My son had taken a room for one night. He kept his windows shut and his air con on. Despite that we had to terminate three flies after returning from dinner. He said his walls were crawling with small black insects he'd never seen before. We both ended up with unexplained marks on our lower legs. This was our first and last stay unless Browns gut the place and start over.

We enjoyed our two nights in the hotel, which is located in a fantastic walkable neighborhood. Lots of restaurants to choose from nearby. The old city is just a short cab ride away. Especially enjoyed the daily happy hour which provided an opportunity to mingle with the guests--fantastic. Breakfast at the Bagel place just up the street was great--loved their varied menu. Great staff. Did not like the tour guide they recommended because he did not know much, was unpleasant, and expensive--go with a group tour.
