VIDEO – Jerusalem Selichot in 60 Seconds

It is the dead of night, and Rosh Hashanah is only a week away. In the narrow, lamp-lit alleyways of the Old City’s Jewish Quarter, black-clad worshippers scurry towards the Western Wall, where, quavering with awe and devotion, they will beseech the Almighty in song and invoke his mercy with prayer. Although “Selichot” are recited throughout the Jewish world, nowhere is this ancient custom, which literally translates as both “apologies” and “forgivenesses,” celebrated as powerfully as in Jerusalem.
