Tisha B’Av 2016 in Jerusalem

Tisha B’Av, the culmination of the Three Weeks and the Nine Days, is traditionally known as the saddest time of year in the Jewish calendar. It is a fast day that commemorates the destruction of the two temples in Jerusalem and the beginning of the long Jewish diaspora. It has also been a day on which many difficult things have befallen the Jewish people, making it a very solemn day nationally.

Because the focal point of Tisha B’Av is the destruction of the Jewish presence in Jerusalem, Jerusalem is a very meaningful place to spend Tisha B’Av. There are plenty of programs throughout the city, including quite a lot in English. It is also recommended to visit the Western Wall. As one of the supporting walls of the Temple Mount some 2,000 years, it is a very special place to be on this day.

There is plenty to do to pass the time while fasting in Jerusalem on Tisha B’Av. Many classes, lectures and activities.
