He eventually ended 30 years of Labor dominance in the Knesset and led a Likud-dominated coalition to power. In 1979, Begin became a peacemaker, doing a deal with Egypt's President Anwar Sadat. The peace agreement was not universally popular as it involved territorial concessions, including returning Sanai to Egypt. This led to bitter recriminations. Begin, for all his faults, was a giant of a man. Even if the peace between Israel and Egypt is a cold peace, it is better than no peace at all.

MoreThis museum is a very well done presentation of one of Israel's major leaders. There are interesting photos, historical items and recreations of spaces that were important to the life of Menachem Begin. The terrace has beautiful views of the city and there's a small but very well appointed gift shop in the lobby. My major suggestion is that the museum LOWER the volume on the audio in the museum. I took the English tour and you have a headset with English translations of the speeches and interviews you hear as you travel from room to room. Unfortunately, it was hard to hear the translations because the audio in the room was overpowering the headsets. I nearly got a headache at times. I hope they can figure out a way to make this a more pleasant experience.
