Still a great restaurant

This restaurant is still a great place for a meal with friends or couples. The service is very good and the food excellent. Great atmosphere.

Not up to its best, but a learning experience

Jerusalem I had saved my appetite for a visit to Jacko’s Street, a restaurant that I praised in last year’s report. Jacko’s filet mignon was excellent last year, so I thought I’d order an entrecote this time. While the steak was rare, as ordered, the meat was grainy and it, and everything accompanying it, was heavy with oil. On the other hand, in the restaurant’s favor, this year we found the wait staff to be much more attuned to the customer, much friendlier, and more accommodating. To add to our comfort, our waiter turned down the volume of the music as we requested. One change I should note. Tipping wait staff in Israel has changed! In previous years, the style was much like that in the US. That is, once the check is presented you provide your card, the card transaction is recorded, the final check is returned to you for signature, you add the tip and final amount, and that’s that. With the new Israeli style, the check is presented and you are asked to add the tip to the amount before the card is processed. Since there is no space designated on the check to add the tip, you must tell the waiter/waitress what to add. You can understand that this allows the proprietor to avoid the problem of recording and distributing the tips owed the staff and it allows the staff to avoid recording their income. On the other hand, it puts the onus on the customer to tell the waiter/waitress the tip amount, thus perhaps embarrassing the customer into paying a greater tip.

We were a group of 7 including overseas family for a birthday celebration. The reputation of the restaurant attracted us. The evening was spoiled because the food arrived very late and they committed the worst error of serving half the group 5-10 minutes before the rest. The same happened for first and second courses. So people had to eat at different times before food got cold etc. The food when it came was lovely but nobody with any skill was managing the kitchen and delivery of the food. It is unfair on the waiters who do a great job but kept hearing complaints
