A short distance from the Walls of the Old City, just outside the Jaffa Gate is the modern shopping area of Ben Yehuda Street. It is light years in difference from the experience of the cramped Old City and its markets, this is a modern mecca to consumerism and a Jerusalem that is more western than the Old City. Brand name stores line the streets and places to eat and drink abound along Ben Yehuda, it seems to pulsate with life. If you want to experience the entirety of old and new Jerusalem, then you must wander its length for a while.

If you want to enjoy basic Israeli specialties made fresh, like shwarma, schnitzel, falafel etc and your like huge portions, friendly ownership, no frills and affordable prices go to Babush on Hebron Road. A bit off the beaten track for tourists but parking is free and plenty of buses stop right there. And...
