The architecture of the Jewish Quarter is amazing. Walking along the shopping route, every now and then you stop to look down what can only be described as a chimney. Secured with barriers and a glass roof, looking down, one can see archeological digs that are still taking place in Jerusalem unearthing amazing historical artefacts. One "chimney" we looked down revealed a roadway and the remains of what had once been somebody's home centuries ago. But the shops themselves are fabulous, and we spent a fair few New Israeli Schekels :-)

The Cardo was the main street in old Jerusalem. It was truly the heart of the city. The ancient ruins are complemented by murals that show what life in the busy city center was once like. The murals are relatively new. It is helpful to have a guided tour of this area. Shopping is close by and fun. Mostly in the the shade.
