The Cardo follows the ancient main north-south street of Roman and later Byzantine Jerusalem. It was a colonnaded street lined with shops. The present Cardo is also lined with shops, but it is now well above the level of the original street. Part of the original columns and paving have been excavated and can be seen. The present day shops there and throughout the area on the many narrow, cobbled pedestrian streets are like an oriental bazaar. Well worth a visit.

Just an awesome place to walk through. For us, coming from the West, it is a totally different experience. Was fun and fascinating.

Worthwhile

Worthwhile if you are in the centre of the Old City of Jerusalem. Only takes 5 minutes to walk through.
