First erected in 457 AD as a Byzantine Shrine, destroyed in 1010, rebuilt by crusaders in 1102 and given its present name. It fell into ruin and was not rebuilt until1931 when it was given its present name. There is a huge golden rooster protruding from it's roof. It is a Roman Catholic church located on the Eastern side of Mt.Zion, just outside the old City of Jerusalem. We were taken to the very bottom, where Jesus was held prisoner on Holy Thursday. It was surreal being there and to imagine the things that happened here. It's very beautiful and sacred and not to be missed.
