We visited on a pilgrimage as did lots of other people. So, we walked around the perimeter of the garden, a collection of olive trees, some very old, in single file and briefly stopped for pictures. The interior of the garden is off-limits. If you are an amateur photographer, expect to have crowds and only a few minutes to grab shots. My advice: travel light with a pocket camera or a DSRL with a zoom lens, take a lot of pictures and expect to delete the bad ones later. There is not much contrast in the trees and their leaves. Post-processing for contrast may be needed.

The Garden of Gethsemane is one of the most important and significant attractions on the Mount of Olives. Unlike the other churches and memorial holy places on the Mount of Olives, all developed and reconstructed in more modern times, The Garden of Gethsemane remains natural and much less "developed". The huge old olive trees in the garden are so old that one can imagine them to be the actual original trees that Our Lord prayed and taught under during His life on earth over 2,000 years ago. I found the Garden of Gethsemane to be very moving and spiritual, and thought provoking.

Agony in the garden

We arrived here walking down from Dominus Flevit in Mount of Olives; it's just beside the Church of All Nations. See ancient olive trees here known to science. The garden is rather small when we walked around thru it going to the Church of Agony.
