With more than 1200 films screened every year, fascinating masterclasses, diverse courses about the art of the cinema, classical music and opera series, educational activities for schools, children and the whole family – Jerusalem Cinematheque is, without a doubt, one of Israel’s leading and most influential cultural institutions.
Jerusalem Cinematheque’s cultural and artistic activity has been cultivating and promoting the art of Cinema in Israel and abroad for over 30 years now. And, in fact, it is one of Jerusalem’s most popular and fascinating entertainment centers. It is also home to the Israel Film Archive – the largest film archive in the Middle East region, with over 33,000 local and international screening prints.
Festivals and International Events
Located at the upper section of Sultan’s Pool, Jerusalem Cinematheque overlooks the beautiful and ancient walls of the Old City. The location is central and in close proximity to many important historic landmarks and popular tourist attractions. Naturally, it’s a perfect atmosphere for festivals and cultural events that focus on the art of Israeli and international filmmaking.
Among these events, you’ll find the Jerusalem International Film Festival, which is held every summer. The festival hosts over 70,000 visitors and hundreds of industry creators from Israel and abroad. Another great annual festival to check out is the International Jewish Film Festival. This unique festival takes place during the holiday of Hanukkah, and it hosts about 20,000 visitors from Israel and abroad.
