Scottish missionaries had been making pilgrimages to the Holy Land as early as the 19th-century, but the number of Scottish people actually residing in Jerusalem rose sharply after the establishment of the British Mandate in the wake of World War I.

These Scots, with the help of Lord Allenby, established the historic St. Andrew's Church in the late 1920's in memory of the Scottish soldiers killed in the Great War.

Regular services are held at St. Andrew's Church, which is located alongside the Menachem Begin Heritage Center, overlooking the Valley of Hinnom and Mount Zion. The church also houses the Scottish Guesthouse, which offers pilgrims and other visitors comfortable lodging in a quaint, tranquil atmosphere amidst one of the city's culture hubs, from the Cinemateque to the First Station, and just across from the Liberty Bell Park.

Safe, clean, wonderful location. Several restaurants within walking distance. Can't beat it for the price overlooking old city. Breakfast was good but not the best we had in Israel.
