The Ariel Center - First Temple Period

The Ariel Center - First Temple Period

The First Temple, built by King Solomon in the 10th century BCE, was one of the greatest marvels of the ancient world. Biblical sources tell us that the magnificent structure stood for 400 years, during which it served as the focal point of Jewish worship and a place of pilgrimage on the High Holy Days. The First Temple was destroyed under the rule of Babylonian King Nebuchadnezzar II in 586 BCE.

The Ariel Center for Jerusalem in the First Temple Period, situated in the Jewish Quarter of the Old City, is dedicated to preserving the memory of this mythical piece of cultural and architectural history, and includes a model of the Temple and the city of Jerusalem in ancient times. Also on hand are reproductions of major archaeological discoveries, a sound-and-light show, and a display of authentic artifacts dating back to the time of the First Temple.

Those who plan to visit the archaeological sites of the Old City and wish to inform and enhance their experience should definitely consider first stopping by at the Ariel Center (entrance fee), situated at the corner of Bonei Hahoma and Plugat Hakotel Streets in the Jewish Quarter in the Old City. There are guides available at the center that offer excellent guided tours. Advance reservations are recommended.
