Must See Museum
TripAdvisor RatingReviewed today

This is the major cultural place to visit in Jerusalem. A combined art and archaeological museum with Israeli and international art, a large area devoted to the Dead Sea Scrolls ,a sculpture garden and a multi national archaeological display. Well worth a visit.

Having visited museums in most of Europe's capitals and some beyond, I have been well impressed. The collections from the antiquity are excellent (especially the Bronze Age one from Tel Hazor and the Roman one from Beit She'an). There is also a wide variety of other exhibits, ranging from Picasso to jewels to a synagogue moved from Surinam. The museum also has a really well-developed "museum education": what you can read and listen to (on the free audio guide). My son (aged 3) has enjoyed the full day at the museum, there was good food to be had, and nice presents to be bought in the museum shop. Negatives included a bomb threat (causing a brief lock-down), closure of the main restaurant, a late opening (10am), and somewhat unfriendly staffers (who either don't speak English or don't want to).

There's an amazing scale model of Jerusalem at the time of the 2nd Temple (1st Century C.E.). And the galleries...

There's an amazing scale model of Jerusalem at the time of the 2nd Temple (1st Century C.E.). And the galleries and buildings themselves are beautifully designed. More than a day's worth of beauty.
