VAN LEER INSTITUTE – MORAL EXCELLENCE SINCE 1959
The Van Leer Institute was established in 1959 by the Van Leer family in order to promote public discourse around the subjects of philosophy, society and culture. The institute has been functioning, as a professional center for the Humanities and Social Sciences in Israel for over 58 years now. Van Leer Institute has gained an international reputation based on its deep involvement in social matters in Israel, including direct contact with sensitive social issues, such as gender and cultural equality, civil society empowerment, social justice, and more.
The Place & The Knowledge
The Van Leer Institute is composed of The Polonsky Academy for advanced studies in the humanities and social sciences, The Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities, the Council for Higher Education, and the Israel Science Foundation.
All activities held in the institute are admission free and open to the general public, with the purpose of developing and promoting the values of the Van Leer Institute. Among the different activities in the Institute are conferences, discussion evenings, cultural events, exhibits and exhibitions, professional lectures, and more.
