Very interesting!

The history was amazing. Never thought it would possible to see different layers of stones going back to biblical times. The guide was excellent.

I had visited the tunnels 15 or 20 years ago, but this was a completely different experience. A huge amount has been excavated since then. I tried to book online, but the website kept telling me that no tickets were available for any dates. I phoned up and was able to sort it fairly quickly. We had a good guide on the English tour and his history was sound from the second temple period on. Before that he confused the Bible’s account with history. We were not allowed to enter what we were told was the largest excavated space as we were a mixed group and apparently this has been turned into a segregated prayer space for men. Given that prayers were not taking place at the time this seemed unnecessary at an archaeological site, but then I understand that the excavations are directed by a religious group with an agenda rather than being independent. Well, this is Jerusalem -so I guess it’s par for the course. The site itself is impressive, in particular Herod’s handiwork (that is the work of his minions and slaves). One certainly gets a feel for the size of the Temple mount and the amount of work it must have taken to construct. Well worth the modest entrance fee if you have any interest in history or a religious affiliation.

Perfect attraction for the late night.

Exiting, mystical, opened very late at night ( at least when I visited ), and if you love alternative history, you can enjoy very deep and imposing megalithic structures and wonder how the hell they worked with them. A must see. Great tunnels too.
