Try to come in low season and plan more or less 4 hours... or more

Even for a profound connoisseur of the history of National Socialism, a visit to Yad Vashem is a depressing experience. I have been to some of the original locations of history, not only in smaller, unknown places, not only in Schindler's factory in Krakow, but also in Dachau and Buchenwald. But in no other place the victims come as close as human beings. Not as numbers, but as children, women and men like you and me. Try to come in the low season, e.g. in the first week of January. Try to plan more time as you thought and –if it is not possible for you to find a human guide- take an audio guide. And plan little activity for the day after, it takes time to get through feelings. Even if you read and saw a lot of the Shoa before.

Such an important place to visit
TripAdvisor RatingReviewed 2 days ago

Did you know the place was build low on purpose? This is so you’d have to walk down to reach it. Not up, or flat, but down. As to say: we had to go this low to reach the atrocious things that were done in the holocaust. It’s a powerful place. Don’t miss.
