Drums and Dances – Passover Family Event at Bible Lands Museum

The Bible Lands Museum Jerusalem invites visitors to a celebration of sound and rhythm this Passover with Drums and Dances.

This family-friendly program explores musical instruments, melodies, and rhythms from the ancient world and today through a variety of interactive experiences. Visitors will search for ancient instruments, discover how and when they were used, listen to sounds and melodies from the past, and explore the connection between music across generations.  Experiential activities include a drumming circle, story time, experiential games in the museum galleries, and more.

The event takes place on Sunday–Monday, April 5–6, with sessions at 9:30–11:30, 11:45–13:45, and 14:00–16:00. Participation is by advance registration.

 

Ancient Sounds – Digital Navigation Game

This digital activity takes place on the museum’s web platform and guides participants through nine stations across the galleries, following ancient musical instruments used in the ancient world.

  • Duration: 30–45 minutes
  • Ages: For the whole family, ages 5 and up

With Drums and Dances – The Musical Procession

A guided musical family tour accompanied by a museum guide and a flute player. Participants learn about the role of music in the ancient world, the instruments that were played, and the purposes they served, while taking part in a musical procession.

  • Ages: For the whole family, from age 5 and up

Mary and the Drum – Storytime for Little Ones

A storytelling session accompanied by drums and singing, following Miriam the Prophetess from her childhood on the Nile to her leadership through song.

  • Duration: 20 minutes
  • Ages: 3–8

From the Song of the Sea to the Song of the Day – Musical Rest Area

A quiet and comfortable space with beanbags, mats, and cushions where visitors can relax and listen to melodies and sounds inspired by the ancient world.

  • Duration: Unlimited
  • Ages: For the whole family, ages 5 and up

Introductory Film: Gateway to the Ancient World

An introductory film presenting the Bible Lands Museum, its artifacts, and the cultures represented in its galleries. Screenings take place throughout the day in Hebrew and English.

  • Duration: Approximately 5 minutes
  • Ages: For the whole family, ages 5 and up

Important Information

  • Price: 35 ₪ per adult and child
  • Session Duration: 2 hours
  • Participation is by advance booking only
  • Activities take place according to Home Front Command guidelines
  • Activities are held near a shelter
  • Visitors may stay in the museum only during their booked time slot
  • Food is not allowed inside the museum
  • Tickets purchased through consumer clubs are not valid for this event

This Passover event combines music, storytelling, and interactive discovery in a museum setting suitable for families and visitors of all ages.

    So many wonderful artifacts here. I could have spent the whole day there. We had a free tour guide in English who was very knowledgeable too. Great place to visit. Leave enough time if you’re into bible history.
