Following the success of Bach in Jerusalem Festival in 2016-2019, the festival will take place once again this year in selected institutions around Jerusalem.
The program will include orchestral and chamber concerts, free outdoor concerts, a unique Jazz-Baroque workshop, an international symposium and an and a unique multi-sensory experience that combines the enjoyment of music and food tastings with closed eyes. The festival is initiated and produced by the Jerusalem Baroque Orchestra, and David Shemer artistically directs it.
Most events will take place at the Jerusalem YMCA, Brigham Young University, and other selected locations. Additionally, some of the central pieces will be performed in Haifa and Tel-Aviv.
Bach Festival 2020 Highlights
Main event: Easter Oratorio
The highlight of the festival: a performance of two masterpieces by Bach – the Easter Oratorio and Missa Brevis, conducted by one of the most respected Baroque conductors of our time – Christophe Rousse from France, along with many famed soloists from all over Israel and abroad:
- Tehila Nini-Goldstein (Germany-Israel), soprano
- Margot Oitzinger (Austria) alto
- Tomáš Král (Czech-Germany), baritone
- Richard Resch (Germany), tenor

Christophe Rousse’s Recital
The famed harpsichord player and conductor Christophe Rousse will perform some of the renowned works by Bach and Couperin.

Organ recital by Hartmut Rohmeyer
The professor Hartmut Rohmeyer will play pieces from Bach’s work on the organ of Lübeck Cathedral, Germany.

Bach and Jazz workshop
A unique event that crosses musical genres, with students from all around Israel.
