Following the success of the Bach in Jerusalem Festival in 2016-2020, the festival will take place once again this year in selected institutions around Jerusalem. The event is joining Jerusalem to leading cities all other the world in celebration of one of the most renowned composers in the history of music.
The guests of the festival will enjoy an unprecedented amount of orchestral and chamber concerts, master classes, an international symposium, and even a unique event of listening to music and tasting gourmet dishes blindfolded – a multisensory experience!
The festival is initiated and produced by the Jerusalem Baroque Orchestra, and David Shemer artistically directs it.
Most events will take place at the Jerusalem YMCA, Brigham Young University, and other selected locations. Additionally, some central pieces will be performed in Haifa and Tel-Aviv.
Bach Festival 2022 Highlights
Flute Sonatas
An unforgettable evening during which we’ll hear the four flue sonatas composed by Bach, performed by Idit Shemer on flute, Orit Meser-Yaakovi on cello, and David Shemer on harpsichord.
The pieces that will be performed are Flute Sonata in C Major, BWV 1033, Sonata in B flat major, BMV 1035, Flute Sonata in C minor, BWV 1030, and Flute Sonata in B minor, BWV 1034.
When? March 20th, 8 PM
Where? Conference Hall, International YMCA, Jerusalem.
Past and Future: Organ Recital
An evening dedicated to the encounter between Bach and Mendelssohn – during the concert, we’ll be introduced to the three great works by Bach that inspired Mendelssohn’s’ preludes and fugues for the organ (Op. 37).
When? March 21st, 7 PM.
Where? The Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, the Old City, Jerusalem.
Bach Zen
Join an intimate evening with the flutist Roy Amotz who will return from a long stay in Berlin to offer us a solo flute program before the release of his new album “Bach Zen”. The album is a musical-spiritual journey from Bach to modern pieces for the flute, inspired by traditional instruments.
When? March 28th, 8 PM.
