Jerusalem has been the beating heart and yearning soul of Jewish art and expression for three thousand years now. There’s no better place to celebrate contemporary Jewish art. That is precisely the opportunity offered by the Jerusalem Biennale for Contemporary Jewish Art – the one place to find the work of almost 200 Israeli and international professional artists, in dozens of exhibitions and eight unique installations.
Jerusalem Biennale Founder Rami Ozeri: “Discourse and discord lie at the heart of creativity. The Jerusalem Biennale explores this diverse dialogue, through the multi-layered language of the visual arts, challenging the viewing public and generating debate. All of this while offering a unique platform to a wide variety of artists, Jewish and non-Jewish. We have seen the Jerusalem Biennale grow from 60 artists in the inaugural year of 2013 to over 200 in the 2019 Jerusalem Biennale. This year, we are particularly proud of the participation of contemporary artists of the highest international standards.”
This year’s theme is the “For Heaven’s Sake! (LeShem Shalayim)” concept, derived from the famous verse in the Mishnah, Ethics of the Fathers, that states: “Any dispute which is for the sake of Heaven will ultimately endure, and one which is not for the sake of Heaven will not ultimately endure.”
The idea is that when seeking the truth, many revelations and exciting paths may be explored and discovered.
This year the Biennale will present over 200 artists from Israel and abroad. The various showcases will be spread over 14 locations around the city, taking place from October 10th to November 28th.
Additional panels with the artists, gallery talks, street art shows, and other engaging and moving events will take place in the alleys and promenades of Jerusalem.
Guided tours will be available in English and Hebrew to show the guests of the city the most exciting points of interest.– [email protected]
The exhibitions and other activities may be subjected to change.
