Every Thursday downtown Jerusalem comes alive with art and entertainment for the weekly Jerusalem Night Market along Jaffa Street.
Drawing on similar markets in Asia and Europe, such as Chiang Mai in northern Thailand, Las Ramblas in Barcelona and the charming Covent Garden Market in London, the city of Jerusalem has unified numerous independent projects throughout the city to create the Night Market, which will stretch from Generali Square (corner of Shlomtsiyon Street) to Zion Square. Over time, the city plans to expand the market along the light rail tracks to Davidka Square near the Mahane Yehuda Market.
Starting in the afternoon, the street fills up with stalls set up by all types of artists and designers — jewelry, clothes, makeup, sculptors and many more — showing off and selling their wares, as well as musicians, performance artists, mimes, art exhibitions, workshops and much more.
