Dîner jour de l’an

I chose this restaurant for a celebratory dinner for four of us. We made an early reservation to take advantage of the current offer of a 20% discount if one arrives before 8 PM. We were offered a choice of outdoor or indoor seating. Because of Corona we chose outdoors. The service was very attentive. The food was excellent. We had a mullard appetizer (pieces of grilled duck barest on a thin layer of mashed potatoes with a bit of a wine sauce as an appetizer. For main dishes we had (a) roast salmon, (b) filet of beef, (c) pargit (chicken thigh) with vegetables and (d) an asado sandwich. The salmon was very good. The filet was substantial and was the best meat I have eaten here since moving to Israel 3 years ago, It was accompanied by large pieces of fried potatoes with the skins on. Yummy! The pargit was good but my wife didn't care much for the vegetables. The sandwich was a huge roll filed with pulled beef in a mild but tasty sauce. Not exactly what one would call asado but tasty nevertheless. And a fine bottle of wine. All in all the restaurant deserved a rating of 5, which is what I gave it. But I do have a few quibbles that would be easy to correct. 1. The Hebrew menu had items on it (including the fillet and other cuts of beef) that were missing from the English menu. 2. The wine list we were give was a "wine of the month" list that contained a bunch of OK wines priced at about 2 1/2-3 times their price in the local supermarket. Not a great wine list for such a restaurant so I asked if they had a list of better wines. Oh, yes, they did, under a stack of papers. 3. At the end of the meal I mentioned this discount and they asked if I had a voucher. Happens that I did. But the discount was also mentioned on their website so a voucher shouldn't have been needed. So I'm coming to the conclusion that they may be giving a bit of a short shrift to their non-Hebrew speaking or otherwise not-so-aware customers. Hope I'm wrong about this.

Had an amazing dinner: appetizer-great mixed salad of greens, raddichio and nuts, mustard seed and honey dressing. Main: Roast beef with goose liver and onion jam. Cool atmosphere in the heart of Jerusalem.
