A trip to Jerusalem is not complete without a stop at Baltinester’s, the beautiful Jewelry store which only keeps on getting better. We first found it some 30 years ago on an extended family Bar/Bat Mitzvah trip. The guide took us to an area restaurant and after dinner, we strolled around on a beautiful night. The shop was closed, but the windows called out and we returned the next day. Suffice it to say, we were delighted that we did. I purchased a magnificent pearl necklace for my Mom and she bought me a fabulous gold cuff bracelet which I cannot wear without remembering that wonderful trip. My Dad was not a ‘shopper’ but he so loved the necklace when he saw it back at the hotel, he said, ‘I want that to be from me! I’ll pay for it’ and put a pile of cash on the hotel bed. I said , ‘OK’ and went to my room, called the store and asked if they had a pearl bracelet to go with the necklace. ‘No, but we’ll make one!’ I agreed instantly. The representative said he’d bring it on his next trip to the US.... and he did! I love to see my Mom, now 95, wearing it to this day. Over the years we have returned to the shop but only recently, I lost my big Shema necklace which I had to remove for an Xray. I was devastated. The store now has a magnificent website. My husband found my Shema and called to order a replacement for the one that had actually been stolen from the locker! When it was delivered, even more beautiful than I remembered, I cried. I am wearing it now and it has truly been my Good Luck charm. I only take it off for medical issues and then leave it hidden at home. Most recently, on a trip to Israel to visit my son and his family, living in Israel for his Sabbatical year, I wanted to go to Baltinester. Our crazy schedule, not staying in Jerusalem and too many other things kept us from more than a visit to the Kotel and a gathering with family, before Pesach. But it is the 21st century and we now have 9 grandchildren for whom we wanted to get Hebrew name necklace and bracelets. Yoram and I spoke briefly, I texted my grandkids Hebrew names and what they had chosen and within less than 2 weeks they were here! Keepsakes to be sure. Anyone can write that the mensch at Baltinester are honest, master craftsmen, excellent customer service folks and have an amazing array of treasures. I am a storyteller, and I truly believe these few examples say more about Baltinester than a simple phrase or two. Thank you for making my grandchildren happy and for being MY ‘go to’ store for unique and the highest quality treasures! NHK NESTER!
