This museum was built in the 1980's. It is said to be the largest archiological site in Israel. It revels the splendor of Herod's time and lifestyle of the Second Temple priests. Consists of 6 houses built on a hillside overlooking the Temple Mount in the Herodian period. The Herodian Quarter was discovered following the Six Day War. Our groups time there was less than two hours, so we didn't see as much as we would have liked to see.

I've been in many museums around the world and I think it's probably the worst out of them. It consists of old furniture and remaining of houses from ancient times. The place isn't well maintained nor looks appealing and therefore even tho there are many interesting pieces there, which mean a lot historically wise to Jews, the whole experience is very boring. The are many guided groups inside which makes it really difficult to wander by yourself and look at the display.

I really love this museum. It is one of my top favourites in Jerusalem. This place puts you back in time 2000 years as if it happened yesterday. The destruction of Jerusalem is so clearly visible here. After many years carefully removing the rubble after the 6 day war, now we can have a good look at how the priests and other wealthy people lived in the first century BE. This part of the city from were the inhabitants had a marvellous view on the Temple. You can see how the layout of the houses were, the mosaic floors, the decorated walls, the furniture, the typical stone vessels and the many ritual baths. This all gives you a very good impression of the Torah observing Jewish life in the time of Jesus.
