Sakharov Gardens

Sakharov Gardens

Known to Israelis mostly from traffic reports on the radio, the Sakharov Gardens consist of a series of flowerbeds at a junction near the entrance to Jerusalem, where the cars often move at an excruciatingly sluggish pace. The gardens are named after Andrei Sakharov (1921-1989), a prominent Soviet physicist and human rights activist and the winner of the 1975 Nobel Peace Prize. They'lll be on the right side if you’re driving from Tel Aviv, about a kilometer before the entrance to the city. Don't worry, you won't likely miss them, as you’ll probably already be going slow enough to see them.
