Despite the misunderstanding about the order (we chose the wrong plate!) Zohar, our server, changed it without any question... so lovely service and excellent food!

The Modern Restaurant, situated inside the Israel Museum has both indoor and outdoor seating. Today, because of the summer heat, we sat inside, but one can still see some of the view through the windows. The restaurant is large, spacious, airy and has a very pleasant atmosphere. The music wasn't too loud or overwhelming. A friend and I went for and early lunch and decided to have the lunchtime special whereby you pay the price of of the main course and get a salad and lemonade. We added a bit and also got coffee and a dessert which we shared. Our first course was a lovely, large, very fresh and tangy green salad which also had thin slices of green apples in it, lemon and mint. It had sugared pecans strewn over the top, and it would have been a bit better if there either would have been fewer nuts or they would have been broken up into smaller pieces,so as to be less dominant. But all together, it was a very generous and delicious starter. We ordered two main dishes- the sofritto which was really a kind of baked meat/ chestnut/ potato dish, topped with sweet potato chips. It was good, but nothing memorable. It was also just a bit heavy for a summer's day, and I think it wouldn't be a bad idea to take it off the menu till the cooler weather; it is definitely a dish more appropriate for the fall and winter. The other main course was far more interesting, delicious and visually attractive: small pieces of chicken breast finely cut and mixed with cranberries and walnuts, topped with kadaif noodles, and served with a very pretty selection of colorful spread to go with it. It was unusual and much lighter than the other dish, and was thoroughly enjoyed. It is not a large portion, though, and is really only for one person. Dessert was of two scoops of tehina ice cream, very smooth and creamy, served with chocolate crumbled cookies,"fans" of phyllo dough, and halva ribbons. It went perfectly with the coffee. The bill came to 240 shekels for two people, including the tip. It is a very decent price for this kind of meal. It is a lovely place to go to after a long day visiting the Israel Museum, with its extraordinary exhibitions, both permanent and temporary.
