Still a jewel

I returned again to this gem in Jerusalem. I now think that it is perhaps the best restaurant there. Their chef, Assi, is an absolute master with fish both cooked and ceviche. The best. The pastas, though, have ALSO been ratcheted up significantly in imagination. Nothing “same old, same old” here! Truffle tortellini and...

The pastas, though, have ALSO been ratcheted up significantly in imagination. Nothing “same old, same old” here! Truffle tortellini and other innovative pasta dishes are incomparable. I see, though, that reservations are now a must as other people are catching on fast.

Three couples visited this local restaurant and the food and service were amazing. The salmon with mashed potatoes with truffle oil and chestnut, still makes my mouth water. My husband enjoyed his tortellini so much that he inhaled it all before he remembered to give me a taste. The tomato soup was rich and...

Highly recommend Al Dente. We hadn't been there in years. Our next visit back will be much sooner. It was great. The restaurant has a simple charm to it. The young wait staff is very courteous and attentive without being intrusive. The food was delicious. Interesting and prepared perfectly. The new (a couple of years now) owner/chef Assi (?) has definitely raised the restaurant's level, which was very good to begin with. Because of some health problems, I had to customize one of the meals to make it work for me. After the waiter took the order back to him, he came out to go over it to make sure he had it right and to see if there was anything else he could do. My wife ordered an appetizer which I could not eat. A minute after she got it, the waiter came out with an "on the house" plate of perfectly grilled vegetables that I could eat. While we were eating the main course, the owner/chef came out again to see if everything was o.k. I noticed that he also stopped and chatted with folks at a couple of other tables. Everything was prepared and tasted perfectly. For the food and atmosphere, and for Jerusalem, the prices are quite fair. We had a reservation for 7:45 p.m. on a Thursday evening. Not many people were there when we first arrived. However, within a half hour, the place was packed, so I highly recommend reservations. Can't say enough good things about the restaurant.
