We were visiting BarBaHar at the late afternoon. The place is very nice with great view. However, the food is quit expensive and below average. The main curses are very poor and so are the salads. The pizza was good and the Halumi salad too. As for the deserts the chocolate souffle was good. I would recommend this place only for coffee and cake and not for eating. This is quit sad since at least to my knowledge there is no near by place for eating.

After visiting the Stalactite cave we were ready for a vegetarian lunch. It is located at the entrance to American Independence Park which is great place for a hike (shorter or longer). We set outside enjoying the breeze, the silence and the flowers. We had several appetizers including cauliflower with tahini, eggplant with tahini, and focaccia. Some took shakshuka (eggs in tomato sauce), some Indonesian salad (with tofu and rice) and some vegetable salad. We had also some deserts. All was fresh and tasty. Service was efficient. Price was moderate. Good place to revisit.

brunch on a hilltop

Bar BaHar is high up in the Jerusalem hills, a lovely and occasionally tricky drive up a winding alpine road. It's a great place for a typical Israeli brunch -- coffee, shakshukah, and various mini middle eastern platters. Plus, they have an authentic Italian pizza oven. Go on a nice day for the fresh air.
