For those saying it is difficult to find, just park in back car park of First Station and it's a two minute walk. Highly recommend

My wife and I felt bored with the food we've been eating lately at home and I suggested that we consider eating out. A friend we saw last Friday night mentioned an old favorite of ours that had disappointed us the last time we ate there but I thought it was worth another try. I couldn't have been happier with my choice. We started with my absolute favorite- sweetbreads- cooked to perfection and accompanied by grilled tomatoes, fire-roasted potatoes, eggplant cream and red wine sauce. My wife's pate was scrumptious. I had a delightful Gamla cabernet sauvignon with my meal. Then, I had lamb chops with almonds tabule, fried cauliflower and mashed potatoes. I was pleasantly surprised to find 6 delicious lamb chops that more than satisfied our appetites and allowed my wife to share her sweetbreads with me. My hat is off to the chef, Mutti Ohana, for the best meal I have had in recent memory. Although this was a Monday night, the restaurant was crowded and the staff a bit over-worked but the service was informed and attentive.

The service here is ok , friendly. We came here with my teenage granddaughter. She was very happy with the beef carpaccio and veal schnitzel & mashed potatoes that she ordered. I thought that the schnitzel too heavily breaded but the veal was tender. My husband was equally satisfied with his chicken livers dish. However I ordered mallard which I don't recommend as it was tough and chewy. I didn't like the dips on the table the techina was sweet and oily. The decor in this place is very basic. The restaurant is small- no atmosphere. It is situated in a car park near the old Jerusalem railway station.

This restaurant came highly recommended by a friend--particularly the steak with foie gras. As it is practically impossible to find kosher foie gras in the US, we were all excited to try it...so the first disappointment was discovering that they were out of it. Still, the choices looked so appetizing that we were willing to overlook something that perhaps couldn't be helped. The evening began auspiciously; our appetizers of artichoke salad, sweetbreads, and stuffed spleen were delicious and arrived promptly; up to that point, we had been enjoying the warm, soft bread accompanied by garlic mayonnaise, oil and balsamic vinegar, a mild pepper spread, and olives. I had the sweetbreads served over eggplant cream; they were tender, golden brown, crispy on the outside and succulent on the inside. All the appetizers were enhanced by the bottle of Flam Reserve Syrah we chose. The entrees took a bit longer to arrive than we expected, but were very good--with the caveat that if you are expecting marbled American-style beef, that is not what you will get. This is a more lean European/Argentine style beef. My husband had the braised beef cheeks, which were falling apart with long slow cooking, and highly flavorful. Thing One ordered the butchers cut, which we found similar to skirt steak in texture and flavor. Thing Two had the sirloin with chimichurri sauce; it was chewier than expected and rarer than he had asked for. A sharper knife would have been handy as well. I chose the filet mignon; it's been a long time since I had a real filet mignon, but this didn't taste exactly the way I remembered it, so I have my doubts about the cut being what it was advertised as. Still, it was very good and flavorful, tender and perfectly seasoned. We had seen a few things listed in the dessert section that seemed promising, so we asked for the menu again. Our waitress brought the menus, but then ignored us for an incredibly frustrating 20+ minutes. We watched her flirt with the other servers, pay attention to all the other tables, and check her phone a few times--until we asked the manager to send her over. The dessert, once ordered, also took an unacceptably long time to arrive. We had the lemon meringue tart, the chocolate volcano, and the sorbet selection, which, while good, weren't up to the standard set by the rest of the meal. The orange muscat I wanted to try with dessert was also unavailable. We are diners with very high standards which few restaurants completely live up to. Hachatzer was an enjoyable experience as far as the food went; we appreciated the execution and the inventiveness of the dishes, which were very satisfying. The service started out well but deteriorated to the point of risibility by the end of the evening. I would still recommend, but you may need to aggressively demand good service.
