Amazing, high-quality food. The Sabich was spectacular and the prices were fair (27 NIS). It is clear that the staff takes great pride in providing a high quality of food, with the pita being extremely full of various ingredients.nnShould not be missed if looking for a simple and great meal.
Hasabichiya
- Price $$$$
For those who wish to experience Jerusalem through its street food, Hasabichiya on Shamai Street is a great option. Sabich is a traditional Iraqi food that consists of hard-boiled egg, eggplant and salad in a pita.
Yigal, the warm owner, is a true professional, making sabich at an industrial rate while working alone behind the counter. His unique technique is called “the layers method” and involves spreading hummus, adding a slice of fried eggplant, egg and salad, then more eggplant, half an egg, tehina, more salad, more hummus, more tehina, and finally some parsley to wrap it all up. Perfect.
Hasabichiya is closed on Fridays.

MoreVery busy 'hole-in-the-wall' fast food joint, with slow moving queues. There are a few chairs inside if you are lucky. The sabich is very good but be aware that this is street food and the guy serving was handling both the pita bread and money with his bare hands...not the most hygienic approach (other places we have visited at least have a piece of paper wrapped around the bottom of the pita bread to avoid touching it directly). Anyway, it was enjoyable and we had no bad repercussions.
