we wanted a really good meal in a relaxed NICE restaurant tired of the usual salads and fruit drinks and pizza we found Lara its right off Jaffa in an excellent location easy to get to it has an open kitchen so you can actually see the chef making the meal not so often do you see a female chef the place has a nice home street cafe feel we chose to sit inside I had a most lovely fish (filet)for dinner cooked perfect and paired with root vegetables my daughter had a lovely salmon and was very happy when you want a nice relaxed sit down meal then this is a fine place to go to and remember this is Israel no rush rush when eating and sometimes you really need to just sit and relax and enjoy I do not drink but they have an extensive wine menu

I would like to open by saying that in response to any negative reviews that you may find for Lara, any restaurants can have an off night but my family and I have been there numerous times and to say that the food was flawless, that the service was gifted would be doing a disservice to this one of a kind eatery. I have lived in Israel now for ten years. I have taken in the sites from all the way up North in Rosh Hanikra to all the way down South scuba diving in the Red Sea in Eilat and yet some of my most fondest memories have been in the private, elegant room in Lara's taking in a succulent filet mignon steak over a delicious Castel Grand Vin. Chef Amram in particular is not only a world class chef but a patient teacher and performer from pointing out the differences between atlantic sea salt and rock salt, to always showering us with appetizers on the house. It has become a favorite of not only myself but the many people I have recommended to go there. We were also lucky enough to have Judith the waitress serve us on numerous occasions and she was so sweet and patient with us - Thanks! PS stop by next door at Charlies for a Guiness on tap he is the only bar tender in Jerusalem who knows how to properly pour one :)

I am a very frequent visitor to Israel and love the restaurant scene. Lara however was a huge disappointment and I would never return or recommend. Food was just okay---trout and roast veggies were excellent, but the meats were just good, and the veal stew was awful. From the moment we walked in, service was flawed: smokey kitchen from the grill overflowed to the main dining area, servers dropped utensils and even dropped food on one of my guests, food was not brought out simultaneously, bill was even sloppy with charge for desert that was to be complimentary. Poorly choreographed and ill-executed meal that was extremely expensive. Too many fantastic food choices in this great city to waste an evening or shekels here.
