I went to the restaurant with my parents. The owner/waiter/manager (there was one person per restaurant) failed to mention (it wasn’t even written anywhere) that he doesn’t accept cards. and when the bill came, he sent us to withdraw money from an atm (fyi the closest atm without 10 nis commissions is 1km away) He did not give us any discounts for inconvenience and he was extremely rude. What’s more, the food was inedible, the coffee was warm and quite frankly disgusting. The other thing is that we were speaking another language and he messed up with alcohol and sold a cheap bottle for a higher price. After this he brought the bill where everything was handwritten in Hebrew. He didn’t know that I speak it and it was clear to me that he just wanted to rip us off. It was an extremely unpleasant experience and I will never come back and I would never in a million shekels recommend this place.

Samara, right next door to my hotel, was a godsend. On a rainy Christmas night, I was bone-tired, and Samara had a table. The schnitzel and the wine were might fine. Samara saved me again on my last night in the Old City. It was the only restaurant open. The hot, crispy kabobs were some of the best of my trip. It is clean, warm, and cozy with great, friendly service. The location just inside the Jaffa Gate is great.

Stopped in for a quick full service lunch upon entering the Jaffa Gate. George chose a great wine and the kebabs were fantastic. It’s super clean and relaxing
