The Dormition Abbey is one of the most impressive churches in Jerusalem due to its size, beauty, and location overlooking the Old City. According to Christian tradition, the church was built on the site where Mary, the mother of Jesus, fell into her death coma, hence its name, "The Dormition" - which means slumber.

During his lifetime, Absalom built a monument to himself in the King's Valley, for he said, "I have no son to carry on my name".He named the monument after himself, and it is known as Absalom's Monument to this day. Thus the Bible in Samuel 2 (18: 18) describes one of the episodes in the tempestuous life of King David’s rebellious son, Absalom. Traditionally, the King’s Valley is thought to be the Kidron Valley, which runs alongside the City of David, between the Temple Mount and the Mount of Olives.
The structure that has long been identified with Absalom’s monument is an ancient rock-cut tomb with a conical roof, which is indeed located in the Kidron Valley. Modern scholarship, however, has dated the structure to the first century CE, proposing that it is in fact the nefesh, or monument, of a neighboring burial cave. Apparently, during the Second-Temple period it was de rigueur for wealthy Jerusalemites to build massive monuments alongside their tombs.
Still, even if it turns out that it isn’t the original Absalom’s Pillar, the structure – like the nearby Zechariah’s Tomb – stands as an important Jerusalem landmark and a prime example of Greek-inspired architecture in the Holy Land.

Al-Aqsa Mosque, located south of the Temple Mount near Shlomo's Ark, is a large and impressive place of prayer and one of the most important and sacred mosques in the Muslim world. The Al-Aqsa Mosque has the structure of a Byzantine basilica, and its dome is visible from a distance. Non-Muslims are prohibited from entering the mosque, but you can visit the complex during opening hours without entering the buildings.

Ammunition Hill (Givat HaTahmoshet)

The Karlin-Stolin Hassidic dynasty originated in the 18th-century with the Great Rabbi Aharon of Karlin in present-day Belarus. The Karlin-Stolin hassidim (followers) settled in Jerusalem around 1870 and established a synagogue in the Old City, which they named ‘Beis Aharon’ after a book authored by the second Rabbi Aharon of Karlin. After the synagogue was destroyed during Israel’s 1948 War of Independence, the Karlin-Stolin hassidim relocated to the Beit Yisrael neighborhood in west Jerusalem and established a new synagogue.

Beit Guvrin - Maresha National Park

The Three Markets merge and meet, still inside the Muslim Quarter, on Olive Press Street (Beit Habad in Hebrew, Khan a-Zayit in Arabic). The other end of this large outdoor market is at Damascus Gate. Beit Habad follows the route of the Roman Cardo. The street is not as wide as it used to be since store owners have expanded into the middle of the public space.
As you walk towards Damascus Gate from the Three Markets, on the right you will see the Church of St. Alexander Nievski, a Russian church built in 1860. To the left is the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, which was constructed in neo-Romanesque style on the remains of a Crusader church. The church was dedicated in 1898 in the presence of Kaiser Wilhelm II of Germany. For free you are welcome to climb to the top of the bell tower for an amazing view of Jerusalem from a height of 400 meters.
Olive Press Street is a lively market full of people selling everything from fresh produce to souvenirs. On Fridays women from the nearby villages sell their home-grown leafy greens and vegetables. Part of this street is more focused on local consumption than on tourism.

Although initially built to invoke the memory of the synagogue that served the Hasidim in Europe, Jerusalem’s Belz Great Synagogue is anything but a replica of the original. The extravagant, massive structure is the largest synagogue in Jerusalem – probably the largest in the world, as well – and can host as many as 7,000 worshipers in its central sanctuary. Visible from the Route 1 city entrance, the resplendent synagogue resembles the Second Temple - a site in its own right, especially as it's lit up at night.
The synagogue was completed in the year 2000 after years of planning and fundraising and includes study halls, smaller synagogues for weekday prayers, libraries, dorms, and halls. The ark in the main sanctuary houses some 100 Torah scrolls and is 15 meters high. Visitors to the Belz Great Synagogue are advised to dress modestly (for women, skirts should extend below the knees and sleeves below the elbow), and come on a Saturday (Shabbat) or a Jewish holiday. Although it is not officially a tourist site, and some of the congregants may be suspicious of tourists, there is often someone on hand who will be happy to show you around this magnificent edifice.

The Bloomfield Science Museum in Jerusalem offers hands-on exhibitions where the whole family can explore, experiment, and discover the wonders of science. An interactive space that invites curiosity – and yes, you’re allowed to touch!

Between December 1916 and December 1917, the British Empire launched a campaign to take over the city of Jerusalem from the Ottoman Empire, and in the process lost many soldiers. The British Military Cemetery on Mount Scopus, also known as the Jerusalem War Cemetery, houses the graves of more than 2,500 fallen Commonwealth soldiers from these years. The cemetery consists of simple headstones that detail the name, age, date of death and the unit of the soldiers, with 100 of them unidentified. 
The grounds also houses the Jerusalem Memorial as a tribute to the Commonwealth servicemen who died during operations in Egypt and elsewhere in the nearby areas during the time.  The Jerusalem Memorial includes a chapel with a mosaic designed by Robert Anning Bell, and unveiled in 1927 by Lord Allenby, one of Britain’s greatest war heroes, who had been instrumental in the conquest of Palestine and Syria during World War I.

Let’s take a tour of the burnt house and get to know one of the most important sites in the Old City. The Burnt House is a home from the Second Temple period that was excavated during the restoration of the Jewish Quarter after the unification of Jerusalem.

Christian Quarter - Old City

Located at the heart of the Christian Quarter, this road is one of the most colorful streets in the old city. Its orientation is south to north, and it connect between David Street to Hachanke and Saint Francis Streets. The street serves mainly Christian pilgrims who visit Jerusalem, and therefore many shops offer an abundance of holy vessels and Christian souvenirs such as prayer beads, candles, thorn crowns and Judaica objects.

The Christian Quarter Road is a central and ancient street in the old city and specifically in the Christian Quarter. This can be concluded from the length and width of the street in relation to the other streets of the old city. It was a wide street constructed during the Roman period, when Jerusalem became a Roman pagan city named “Ilya Capitolina”. Excavations conducted in this street after 1967 exposed large and slotted paving stones dating back to the end of the Roman era (end of the 3rd century/beginning of the 4th century).

Christian Quarter Road

The Church of the Nativity is one of the holiest sites in Christian tradition, which holds that the church was built on top of the cave where Jesus of Nazareth was born. The church was first built under the auspices of the Roman emperor Constantine the Great in 135 AD and has been refurbished and added to numerous times since. Inside the church, you can visit the Milk Grotto, which is said to be the actual cave where Mary gave birth to Jesus.
The church is a popular tourist destination year-round and the site of a particularly festive celebration on Christmas, when masses of people from all over the world gather inside and outside the church for services that are shown on a large screen in Manger Square.
The site is also holy to Muslims, who consider Jesus one of the prophets of Allah, and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
