Your Guide to Public Transportation in Jerusalem
Before you travel: using apps with ease
Before you start your vacation, it's worth making sure you've planned a route on Moovit (it's also worth opening an account in the app and signing up for the payment service to validate your trip directly from your mobile phone).
Search for "Moovit" in the app store on your mobile.
You can load the local multi-pass card called "Rav-Kav" in the online application and validate the travel card physically at terminals installed on buses and the light rail.
Search for "Rav-Kav Online" in the app store on your mobile.
Environmentally friendly and convenient: the Jerusalem Light Rail

Jerusalem's light rail is a seamless solution that traverses key sites in the city's central regions. With the light rail, you can effortlessly connect to iconic landmarks such as the Old City, the upscale Mamilla shopping avenue, the vibrant Machane Yehuda market, and the central station, making the most of your time in the city.
Navigate easily using an accumulated value on a multi-line card or the user-friendly Moovit app, ensuring a hassle-free travel experience.
Buses in Jerusalem

Despite the frequency and convenience of the light rail, the bus system has advantages, including the fact that they reach places where the light rail does not go due to the structure of the streets.
Most of the Egged and Superbus lines leave from the central station. In a rough estimate, the hours of operation range from 5:30 am to midnight, with some also continuing as night lines. On Fridays, the buses run until about an hour before Shabbat begins, and on Shabbat evening, from an hour after Shabbat leaves.
Of course, you can use your multi-line card to move between the train and the buses - free travel is available for 90 minutes from the moment of validation.

If you decide to use Jerusalem's taxi services, you can order a taxi by calling the station directly or through the Gett application which allows you to order a taxi via the convenience of your phone.
During the trip, you can agree with the driver on a predetermined rate without a meter, or request its activation. Remember that sometimes the big city is congested and the distances between main visiting points in it can be extended.
