Are you looking for a beautiful, natural place to have a fun family day in Jerusalem? Look no further than The Jerusalem Bird Observatory by The Society for the Protection of Nature in Israel.

The university botanical garden is the largest in Israel. It covers one hundred and twenty dunams of green, blooming, breathing, and diverse vegetation in the heart of Jerusalem, near the Givat Ram campus of the Hebrew University.

The Knesset is the main legislative body of the Israeli government. It enacts laws, elects the President and Prime Minister, supervises government, and more. It is split up into multiple committees that oversee each segment of government, such as finance and labor. There are 120 Knesset members (MKs), and each is elected to four-year terms. The Knesset was first convened February 14, 1949, following the January elections.
The Knesset building is located atop a hilltop in the quiet Givat Ram neighborhood of Jerusalem. It was constructed in 1966, and though additions have been added over time, the original 1966 basic structure remains. Tours in Hebrew, English, Arabic, German, Russian, Spanish, and French are available throughout the day and visitors are welcome to sit in on some debates. Named for Theodor Herzl, the visionary founder of modern Zionism, Mount Herzl is Israel’s national cemetery, housing the remains of Herzl himself. Also buried there are many of the Jewish state’s leaders over the years, and soldiers killed in battle. Among the figures interred at Mount Herzl are prime ministers Levi Eshkol, Golda Meir and Yitzhak Rabin, presidents Chaim Herzog and Zalman Shazar, and other prominent Zionist leaders.
Echoing the temporal proximity of Holocaust Remembrance Day to Israel’s Day of Remembrance for its war casualties, Mount Herzl is only a stone’s throw from the <a href="https://itraveljerusalem.com/attraction/yad-vashem/">Yad Vashem</a> Holocaust memorial and museum. But the two sites are dedicated to two very different types of grief: On the one hand, the incomprehensible loss of the Holocaust, where one is crushed under the sheer volume of the destruction, and on the other, the more intimate, but nevertheless communal, sorrow for Israel’s perished in combat. This mourning is most acutely felt on Remembrance Day, when bereaved families slowly file in crowds through the gates of Mount Herzl to attend the state ceremony.

<h3 style="text-align: justify;">The Herzl Museum</h3>
At the entrance to Mount Herzl is the New Herzl Museum (with an admission fee), with fascinating insights into Herzl and the history of Israel. In a country as small as Israel, every soldier is truly a world in himself. And it is perhaps only at Mount Herzl that one can truly appreciate the pain and tribulations that this country endured in order to come into being and survive to see celebrate over 60 years. There, among the dense rows upon rows of identical flat gravestones stretching into the distance, one can begin to grasp the gaping wounds and profound, aching weariness – the prices Israel has paid in its relentless struggle for survival.

Mount Herzl Cemetery

Teddy Park was established by the the Jerusalem Foundation at the foot of the Old City walls, across the street from Jaffa Gate. In the center of the park, which stretches over seven hectares, is Israel's only sound and light fountain. Watch beautiful synchronized water, sound and light shows which take place four times daily with 256 nozzles, 1,800 light fixtures and a recording of original music performed by the New Jerusalem Philharmonic.
The park also has a visitors' center which tells the story of the development of modern-day Jerusalem during Teddy Kollek's time as mayor in the city. Corner stones describing milestones of the mayor's life are erected along the pathways. There is also a wishing well made of Jerusalem stone, a sun dial, statues, a restored historic building and an aqueduct.
The park is accessible to people with disabilities, sight impairment and for strollers.

The park is open from 7:00 am to 11:00 pm daily, and the visitor's center is open Sunday-Thursday from 2:00-9:00 pm.

The Garden Tomb is an especially popular site, brimming with lush green niches, making it a definite item on your list to visit. The garden is quiet and tranquil, suitable for prayer and reflection. There is no need to reserve in advance, but we recommend coordinating a visit nevertheless, by phoning 02-6272745, especially for groups.

The Western Wall, considered the most sacred site for prayer and religious and national gatherings, has a magnetic appeal for the Jewish people. Many tourists, visitors, and worshippers visit the site, which is one of the most popular and highly recommended attractions in Jerusalem.

The Last Supper Room is located above King David's Tomb on Mount Zion and is considered one of the holiest places for Christianity since, according to Christian tradition, the Last Supper of Jesus was held here.

The wheels of justice grind slow, which may explain why it took more than 40 years for Israel’s Supreme Court to move from the Russian Compound to a home that does it justice. The Supreme Court’s current headquarters, built in 1992 by the Rothschild family and husband-wife architect duo Ram and Ada Carmi, is an attempt to say something about the making of justice without detracting from the functional purpose of the building.
One of the dominant motifs of the new Supreme Court is the sky, which is almost always visible through a series of windows and skylights. In the entrance foyer there is also a staircase leading upward, symbolizing the earth’s aspiration for divine justice though the law. On the outside, as well, the Supreme Court building, a mere five-minute walk from the Knesset and other government institutions, is striking. The stark modern look is offset by myriad touches of traditional and Jewish architecture, and a massive glass pyramid evokes Absalom’s Tomb on the Mount of Olives.
Visitors will be glad to discover the Supreme Court’s museum, which displays a diverse collection and offers a video presentation that explains the inner workings of the Court. And if you’re interested in seeing the justice system in action you’re welcome to sit in on a session.
